Taj Exotica Maldives OverviewA long sliver of green and white land in the blue Indian ocean. The island is roughly 700 meters long and about 80 meters wide at its broadest point. It’s close to Malé International Airport so transfers are painless by speedboat. The Taj Exotica Maldives is known for its water bungalows. These radiate out to sea in two striking uniform arcs.

Deluxe Lagoon Villas The 31 Deluxe Villas are located at the far end of the island. These elegant and discreet villas offer real privacy with their own sun decks. They have the same facilities as the Lagoon Villas but in addition 10 of them feature a private deck with a freshwater plunge pool and furnished chill out area with comfortable lounges – just the relaxation honeymooners need after organising their big day.
Deluxe Beach VillasThese 4 Villas are but meters from the lagoon edge. Each of the villas has a plunge pool, a private veranda with sun beds, a truly tropical outdoor shower in a private walled garden and uninterrupted views across the lagoon. Two of these villas are self-contained and the other two have interconnecting rooms.
Beach Villa Suites are 2 two-bedroom suites that offer the same features as the Deluxe Villa Suites. In addition the master bedroom has an attached bathroom and a private balcony… There are only two of these suites so make sure you book in advance.
The Rehendi Presidential Suite as might expect is quite special. Hmm… bet you’re wondering about the rest of the facilities in each room… the villas include air-conditioning, a personal bar, LCD television with satellite channels, tea/coffee-maker, DVD/CD player, MP3 player, Media Centre, Internet connection, a safe, twin basins in the bathrooms, bathtubs overlooking the ocean (in lagoon villas), rain showers in the bathrooms and of course after all that exposure to water… a hairdryer. Taj Exotica Maldives FacilitiesThere are two à la carte restaurants, 24 degrees and The Deep End. Most meals are taken in 24 degrees and it’s generally said to be the more casual of the two. The vaulted ornate carved ceiling makes it feel special. The Deep End is a short walk along a jetty over the lagoon and is a Mediterranean inspired restaurant. The thatch shades you from the last rays of the sun as you look out from your table onto one of the Maldives island resorts favourite images; the setting sun. You can also arrange for a private dinner on the Ocean Pavilion, an isolated purpose built dining space comfortably furnished for two. I don’t like to use the word romantic too often but the Taj Exotica Maldives knows how to treat its guests when it comes to romantic ambience and style. The island’s wine room is also something to see and it can be booked for private candlelit meals. The island also provides the express laundry/dry cleaning, a lifestyle boutique, a living room with library and private in-villa à la carte dining. Taj Exotica Maldives SpecialitiesThe restaurants and food are renowned for their excellent ambience and quality. The spa is located on an adjoining island and offers an extensive range of services from facial massages and reflexology to holistic Indian therapies and deep muscle kneading. Hmm… Anything else catch your eye?The Taj Exotica Resort and Spa is about 15 minutes by speedboat from Malé International Airport. Recently the flight path into Male changed and you do find jets passing overhead; far enough away not to bother most but for some looking for island isolation perhaps not far enough. As the island is but a stones throw from Malé International Airport there is a preference to stay on the side of the island facing away from Malé. This has the added bonus of being south facing and so you have the views of both the rising sun and its setting. It can of course be hot and the north facing side of the island attracts fresh sea breezes to break the continuous heat. The Taj Exotica provides flip flops and a beach bag. It will be the only footwear you’ll need… so once again, use the extra space for swimwear!
