This large island is popular with those seeking a honeymoon in the Maldives, couples of all ages as well as families. There isn’t a children’s club or crèche but the resort has numerous facilities that appeal to families. 
Sun Island Maldives OverviewAt over 1½ km long and 400 metres wide this ellipse shaped island is big, if not the biggest island and has the facilities to match. 350 rooms are spread over Sun Island resort and its lagoon. Like other Maldives resorts Sun Island is purpose built and seamlessly interweaves paths and tropical foliage around rooms and restaurants.Sun Island is big so there are electric golf carts available to ferry you where you wish. You can call one from your room if you feel you have no energy to get to where you’re going. Invaluable in the rain there are also a few umbrellas in each room for the odd tropical shower. Larger than the deluxe rooms these have the same facilities and in addition en-suite bathroom with bath. 68 Water Bungalows A wooden jetty leads you out over the lagoon to the water bungalows. Facilities are the same as the super deluxe accommodation with the addition of a private sun deck and stairs to the lagoon. 4 Water Suites These large villas on stilts have two bedrooms both with en-suite bathrooms, living room, private bar and a large private terrace with a Jacuzzi. Sun Island Maldives FacilitiesTo cater to the many different tastes of tourists, Sun Island has a Spa centre offering massage and aromatherapy, a beauty salon, a laundry and dry cleaning service, a photographic shop, bicycle hire - to get you to your all important breakfast on time! A children’s pool as well as a general pool, a sauna and whirlpool, gift shops and a fitness centre. Sun Island's restaurants are renowned for their quality and eclectic cuisine: There are five main eateries, The Italian, Thai, Southern Grill, 24 hour à la Carte and the Maaniya Restaurant - Sun Island's main restaurant for all inclusive guests… anything else? Oh yes and seven bars too! Hmm… that entire tropical island… all that Maldivian clear blue sea… Whatever will you do…? Choose from aerobics, badminton, canoeing, catamaran sailing, fishing trips, racquetball, jet ski, snorkelling, squash, table tennis and water skiing. you can play tennis all night with the floodlit tennis court and take your kids to the children’s playground. There’s a weekly entertainment program that includes a live band, disco, Karaoke and poolside shows. And being a Maldives resort, the PADI dive school provides daily excursions and classes. The Sun Island Spa is luxurious and you can enjoy treatments in spacious outdoor areas partially secluded with a massage table and shower. As you lie there contemplating what the day may hold for you, the sun spills through the banyans and flickers across the spa walls like a bird in flight. You smile to yourself... 
Hmm… Anything else catch your eye?Bicycles are available for hire on Sun Island and are well worth it for getting about.We’ve seen reports of breakfast only being served between 7.30am and 9.00am so if you’re on the far side of the island with a 20 minute walk and it’s 8.45am you may want to hire a bike or choose a room closer to the restaurant! Sometimes you might get a better deal if you book a full board package for Sun Island then upgrade to all inclusive on arrival. Check the prices folks! More resorts are thinking up ways to entertain you and keep you amused especially if it rains. Welcome to the Sun Island Maldives crab race… You buy a crab, bet on it and race the crustacean with other enthused crab fans… Not really our thing but they’re well groomed and let out to pasture (or should that be beach?) after the races… Charley and I usually book the free activities offered on the day we arrive. The reception area holds a book and you can choose the date when you wish to go on these excursions. It’s that extra bit of peace of mind and can help with planning especially if you have children with you.
