Ideal For…
Summer Island is just about anyone’s ideal destination for a laidback no shoes feel to a tropical island holiday.
Summer Island Maldives OverviewSummer Island has always been described as a simple resort. It's a laidback resort and renowned for its many excellent dive sites it's popular with divers and the snorkelling is rather excellent too! You can wander around Summer Island in about 20 minutes at a bare-foot-sauntering-with-time-on-my-hands kind of pace. There are breakers built at some of the beach edges to keep the erosion down but this doesn’t interfere with the experience. Besides, without this work we wouldn’t have a Summer Island in the Maldives… It’s a popular island with all the wildlife. Parrots fly through the abundant tropical foliage. Rays hang about the jetty waters and grey herons contemplate the shallows for their next meal.
Summer Island is for relaxing, whilst listening to the waves and the palm fronds rustling in the breeze.
Summer Island Maldives Accommodation 108 Rooms either in the purpose built 2 storey building or bungalows for up to three persons. The rooms come with double or twin bed, shower and toilet, balcony or terrace with sea view (subject to a few trees getting in the way) and air-conditioning. If you have a bungalow on the beach you’ll also get a thatch covered space with tiled flooring and a tap for rinsing the sand off your feet before you step into your room. The shower is electric and not always powerful but even the cold water’s warm.
So don’t despair!
You'll also have a couple of sun loungers with your room number stamped on them so they’re yours for the whole time you're there!
Note that fridges don’t come as standard. You can hire a fridge for a few dollars a day. I have to say that Phil and I always want a fridge simply because we find we rarely eat at lunch except for some fruit. So if we are out on the beach we want to have kept our fruit in the fridge so we can take it with us without having to break from sunbathing or water sports and go to the restaurant. There are 16 deluxe water villas with the following facilities - fridge, satellite TV, bath and open balcony. The Bungalows also include a glass floor panel lit at night to observe the marine life. The water bungalows are laid out in clusters of four so you are not entirely screened from view.
Summer Island Maldives Vacation Package Options Stop Press! Summer Island Maldives used to offer other package options but now concentrates solely on all inclusive packages.
Summer Island Maldives Facilities Meals are three buffets a day plus afternoon tea. As with many all-inclusive resorts the evening meals are themed. Everything from Mongolian to Italian! There is a good selection of well presented meals. You can also enjoy candlelit suppers on the beach. For details on this enquire either at reception or speak to the restaurant manager. The Serena Spa provides a certain level of pampering with massages facials and salon treatments and rejuvenation rubs. As with all appointments, remember that cancellations can lead to a charge being levied.
Summer Island Maldives ActivitiesThe range of activities is mainly water sport based. They include, scuba diving, catamaran sailing‚ water-skiing‚ parasailing‚ canoeing‚ banana rides and windsurfing. The Diverland Dive Centre arranges all the dive trips. Experienced and knowledgeable they look after you and know the best areas to dive. The night dives are recommended. Check in with them when you arrive, fill out the medical consent forms and start the next day. Couldn’t be easier…
Hmm… Anything else catch your eye? Beach towels are not provided so remember to take your own. If this changes we will update the site but for now you could double check and contact the island yourselves. Summer Island Maldives does not have a natural house reef but a manmade one. It works well and gathers marine life around it in numbers. It’s a credit to the Summer island staff that it works so well as a dive site. There are plenty of fish to see when snorkelling in the shallow water around the island too. Snorkelling trip by boat twice a day (equipment not included as part of an all inclusive package), if you own mask and fins take them as snorkel hire charges apply and they’re not cheap. If you're on the ground floor of the hotel block then your ocean views will be restricted. Most visitors try to take the second floor rooms. The view though is obstructed by Banyans and Palms so it’s not as though you have another building to contend with! If there weren’t trees there wouldn’t be an island, remember that!
We think that Summer Island Maldives is still feeling its way after the change to all-inclusive. As with any resort, it could do with some refurbishment but this may be advantageous for those of you looking for potentially cheap all inclusive holidays to the Maldives.
Enjoy your Summer Island Maldives holiday!
