Maldives Surfing
Breaking News…

Maldives surfing is a recently recognised phenomenon for many. Known more for its relaxing atmosphere, the Maldives, or at least part of it, has had a surge of interest as a surfing destination.

The warm waters, decent breaks and island lifestyle have attracted a growing number of experienced and novice surfers.

As with all things tourist and island related, resort owners and the Maldives government have been quick to realise the hypnotic power of providing more great Maldives water sports for their visitors.

The best known surfs for aspiring wave riders and (like me) those who use a boogie board are found in the North and South Malé atolls.

Two popular resorts for surfers are Dhonveli Beach and Spa and Paradise Island resort – both in the North Male’ atoll. They get great breaks and Dhonveli’s Pasta Point which has consistent breaks is set aside exclusively for surfers …

... These are the seasonal influences for all surfers

• April-October for the North Malé atoll area

• February to April and September to November for the outer atolls in the south.

There’s no doubt about it. The Maldives is one of the world's best surfing destinations and offers the best resorts as well as the choice of land or sea based vacations to really enjoy a surfing holiday in the Maldives…

Maldives surfing 01 Did we say land or sea based vacations? That’s right, as some of the great breaks in the Maldives are a boat ride away or around uninhabited islands there are liveaboards and charters for surfers…

In fact the outer atolls are about 300 miles to the south of Malé and have at least a dozen, great world class reef breaks that are challenging and at times extreme.

You can only experience these breaks on liveaboard or charter ships so any Surfer worth their salt (or board!) will tell you that surfing in the Maldives offers something for everyone… Huzzah!
