Life's The Beach on Laguna Island Maldives
ResortCalled the Laguna Island Maldives (and not to be confused with Laguna Beach California) this great Maldives beach resort is rated four star. It is due to be refurbished summer 2008
Ideal For…Laguna Island Beach Resort Maldives is great for honeymooners, couples and those seeking a quiet and peaceful break with outstanding snorkelling and diving.
Laguna Island Maldives OverviewLaguna Resort Maldives is located on the South Malé atoll. It’s only ten minutes from Malé International Airport by speedboat, or half an hour by the slightly slower motorboat. Either way you have time to take in the views of the surrounding islands. Laguna Beach Resort is a plectrum shaped island (a triangular piece of plastic with rounded edges used for plucking or strumming the strings of a guitar or similar instrument)… You see how much you can learn here! OK Phil that’s enough… The island is about 500 meters long and 150 meters broad at its widest with lots of beach to go round. The facilities and restaurants are centrally based on the island. Deluxe wooden bungalows lie along the beach edge interwoven with tropical plants and discreet paths. The Water Suites are at the narrow tip of Laguna Island furthest from the reception and they run out into the Indian Ocean in a straight line. The house reef is about 300 meters from the beach so you can strike out for a languid swim with your ‘buddy’ (remember! Always, always snorkel with someone… it just makes sense to have a partner whilst paddling in the Indian Ocean) or you can take the boat of course.
Laguna Island Maldives AccommodationThere are three types of room available at the Laguna Resort Maldives. 65 Superior Rooms situated in groups of four in two storey houses with a verandah or balcony, it’s your very own Laguna hotel in the Maldives. There’s plenty of room and the layout is simple or elegant depending on how you see these things! These rooms have en-suite bathroom with shower. They also come with air conditioning, ceiling fan, mini fridge, in room safe, coffee and tea making facilities, IDD telephone, hairdryer. 50 Deluxe Bungalows – We’re talking large wooden beams with thatched roofs and verandahs… Your very own Laguna Island Maldives cottage sitting on the sand, only meters from the lagoon. Inside you’ve a four poster bed on a raised level behind the open lounge. The bathroom opens onto an outdoor shower set in a small tropical garden. Yes the shower is private but if you sing, someone is bound to hear you! They come with the same facilities as Superior rooms with the bonus of a minibar The 17 Water Suites stretch out like a pointing finger to the horizon. Similar in style to the bungalows, the Water Suites have an open plan design and are spacious with a seating area and most importantly… a comfy sofa.
The bathroom features a large window overlooking the lagoon… now here’s the good bit…from this window you’re able to fully take in the extraordinary sunsets that seem to embrace you as they fold in on the night... The private sundeck has the whole of the ocean for you to look at… see? Told you it was good! These rooms come with everything above plus an espresso machine, satellite TV and bathrobes. sigh… just like home except for the sand, the sea and the sun…
Laguna Island Maldives Vacation Package OptionsI think you know the drill folks, but here’s the thing. Bed and breakfast, half board, full board and all inclusive vacation packages are available on the Laguna Resort Maldives but the bed and breakfast option is potentially the priciest… Also note that All Inclusive will not be an available option when the resort opens late 2008 early 2009

Laguna Island Maldives ActivitiesLanguid, languorous, Laguna Island Maldives it is not... You would think with all this talk of relaxing that there wasn’t anything else to do… well only if you want to of course. But there’s a choice from the following if you decide to roll off your sun-bed, stagger to your feet and put on some trainers! There’s the air conditioned gymnasium. OK you may not want to go that far so you have table tennis and a floodlit tennis court in the centre of the island next to the Spa. After a work out why not give the steam bath and plunge pool a go? As for on the water; the lagoon is ideal for snorkelling, canoeing and windsurfing. You can also go catamaran sailing. Laguna Island Maldives offers a variety of excursions including trips to Malé, reef snorkelling, night fishing, island hopping, trips in a glass bottom boat and more. Remember to find out what’s included and what isn’t in your Laguna Island Maldives vacation package. Check with reception on arrival and book in for what you want to. Or Go to your bungalow put on your bathing costume and run with arms flapping in delirious delight into the warm welcoming waters of the Indian Ocean… …hmmm… difficult choice! Scuba Diving Laguna island Maldives has a fully equipped and professionally run diving base on the island. The novice, beginner and experienced diver are well taken care of. Operated to the standards you would expect of a resort dependant on diving as one of its tourist resources; PADI qualified instructors and equivalent will take you out to the dive spots they know and show you the vast marine life in this seductive underwater world. If you haven’t been it is truly another world to discover.
Laguna Island Maldives SpecialitiesThe resort Dive School on Laguna Island Maldives is recommended by many who have been to this resort. Enquire about night time diving at the school and ask about taking underwater pictures too.
Laguna Island Maldives Wedding Blessings can be arranged and held on the beach. For many this is a welcome break to the planning of the wedding that took place back home. A beach blessing can be a perfect balance to the traditional white wedding. And remember it’s only a blessing and not a marriage. You’ll have to do that at home first!
Hmm… Anything else catch your eye? It’s about US$3.50 for a bottle of mineral water: Same story folks, know what you are going to get for your Laguna Island Maldives vacation package! It’s hot and you will need to drink a lot of water. As All Inclusive guests on Laguna Island Maldives Charley and I always asked for a bottle of water even if we only wanted a glass. We would keep the bottle in our fridge so consistently managed to have a few litres of chilled water available. Especially crucial if like us, you wander away from your bungalow for the day and don’t want to have to pop back to a bar or restaurant for water. We know, for some of you it all sounds like too much bother… but trust me if this is the only planning you do then it’s worth it. As with any tropical island near water and near the equator you need to be know that there can be insects. Laguna Island Maldives is no exception. For some reason resorts shy away from mentioning this: Better said now so you aren’t surprised. There can be mosquitoes at times; so ask housekeeping for a spray (or take one yourselves and perhaps a plug in repellent). We’ve had trips where not one has been seen and others where we’ve been glad of some form of repellent. The currents can be strong at times so be aware when swimming. This applies to all the Maldives Islands. The wind when it blows can make the sea choppy. Well; what did you expect on your tiny Laguna Island in the Maldives surrounded by the might of the Indian Ocean!
