Kuredu Maldives

Resort

Kuredu Maldives has a 4-star rating. Kuredu island in the Maldives has been awarded the best all inclusive resort by Hayes and Jarvis, a UK tour operator, in Berlin during the ITB (international tourism board) Travel Trade Show 2007.

Ideal For…

Kuredu island resort is known for its appeal for couples, honeymooners and yes, all fans of the largest watersports centre in the Maldives!

Kuredu Maldives Overview

Kuredu is a tear drop shaped island on the northern reef of the Lhaviyani Atoll. It’s about 1.5km in length and 600m wide and an hour’s leisurely walk along the unbroken beaches around the whole island.

From your arrival at Malé International Airport it’s an 80 mile trip due north. That’s 40 minutes by seaplane or 3 ½ hours by speedboat from the airport. An obvious suggestion is to consider the length of time on the water and whether you mind it after a long flight. It’s your call!

As Kuredu is a Maldives resort, similar rules apply for settling your bill. You’ll sign for any purchases, the charge will be placed against your villa and you’ll settle your account at the end of your holiday at the main reception where you first checked in.

Oh and you needn’t worry about carrying around Rufiyaa (around 13 to the US Dollar). The Euro, US dollar, Pound sterling and Swiss Franc are accepted on the island for payments as well as the usual cards. Charley and I have always used the US Dollar as currency in the Maldives, mainly because most resorts services are priced in dollars.

Kuredu Maldives Accommodation

So where will you be staying? You can choose from 5 room types on Kuredu island resort.

Jacuzzi Beach Villas line the south-west and south-east Beach. These Villas partly set in a secluded garden.
They’ve a spacious bedroom and lounge and of course it wouldn’t’ be the Maldives if you didn’t get you own veranda. As the name suggests you can bubble away in your Jacuzzi on a wooden deck area and step into the walk-in shower in the bathroom… bliss.

In your room you’ll find facilities which include air conditioning, mini-bar, safe, telephone, sun beds, beach towels, kimonos, CD & cassette player and tea/coffee making appliances.

Beach Bungalows with thatched roofs and walls finished externally in whitewash giving a real beach hut feel. The Bungalows are comfortably furnished with a spacious open-air bathroom and walk in shower. You can relax in the small garden to the rear, pull up a seat on the wooden terrace, or lounge on your personal sun beds knowing you’re but a crab’s throw from the Maldives clear blue sea.

The in-room features include a CD-player, tea & coffee making appliance, air conditioning, ceiling fan, mini-bar, safe, telephone, and beach towels – so you can leave yours at home and pack extra swimwear instead!

Beach Villas are found next to the Jacuzzi Beach Villas and are virtually identical apart from not having a Jacuzzi! The facilities are the same as the Jacuzzi villas too….so to bubble or not to bubble….that is the question!

Sangu Water Villas give you unrivalled access to the myriad marine life beneath your villa. From the discreetly placed veranda you can watch the reef- sharks and small rays idling in the warm waters of the lagoon.

Needless to say your views out over the ocean are breathtaking. The accommodation is spacious and the bathrooms come with a walk-in shower.

Now some folk get caught out with this when on their Kuredu holiday, so it’s worth a mention. The Sangu Water Villas have a separate check-in reception. Visitors staying in the water villas will have exclusive use of the Sangu restaurant with the option to dine elsewhere…if you’re not staying there, worry not, the other restaurants on the Kuredu Maldives Island Resort are great.

"O" Beach Villas (don’t ask us what the ‘O’ is for…we don’t kn”o”w!) These villas have a spacious bedroom and lounge area. The terrace has a chaise longue with overhead fan. And if that’s not enough An open air bathroom with walk in shower so you can catch the first rays of the rising sun from the north east of the island.

The facilities include mini-bar, wine-cooler, safe, telephone, sun-beds, beach towels, kimonos and a CD player.

Kuredu Maldives Resort Facilities

There are 3 main restaurants, The Bonthi, Coamas & Sangu.

The selection of meals and buffet is what you would expect from a quality Maldivian resort and there’s a choice of excellent bars for you to lounge in, all built in the inimitable Maldivian style of lavish carved wooden beams with access to the outside decking area and comfortable chairs.

There are a few shops to choose from including a photo-processing shop for those disposable underwater cameras. A gift store, dive and snorkel shop and the unique Golf Pro Shop.

There is a fabulous Spa at the Kuredu Maldives offering all types of massage from deep tissue and Swedish to body polish and reflexology for the weary traveller. In addition as with all Maldives resorts offering exclusive honeymoon vacations there are Spa services designed for couples to enjoy together.

Kuredu Maldives Resort Activities

Divers delight! There are more than 40 dive sites to choose from. Kuredu Maldives ProDivers is a 5-star Instructor Development Centre and the PADI registered staff take care of all elements of your dive needs from beginner to professional. All the usual dive protocols are followed and the support is second to none as you would expect. Put that with the quality of the dive sites, reefs and wrecks and you have a premier dive resorts in Lhaviyani Atoll.

Snorkelling is a must for anyone not going to dive. There are snorkel guides offering a range of tours including accompanied boat trips beyond the house reef and night snorkelling!

And if you prefer to be above water then there are plenty of other water sports including parasailing, water skiing, wake boarding or boogie boarding, banana rides, catamaran sailing, windsurfing. The last two have free introductory lessons. You also have the chance to go kite surfing.

Speedboat excursions are popular and can be arranged to include snorkelling and dolphin watching.

Pedalos (pedal boats) and canoes are available and make handy transport to snorkel those hard to find reefs.

Believe it or not there is a six hole golf course on the island and the golf pro does an hour introduction once a week for free.

Kuredu Maldives Resort Specialities

Kuredu island resort welcomes honeymooners in style with a fruit platter and your room bedecked with flower petals. The island offers a number of honeymoon and romantic packages ranging in price from the low hundreds to about $1,200.

The packages include

• Romantic Candlelight Dinner on the Sandbank

• Champagne Breakfast Room Service

• Robinson Crusoe Desert Island Excursion

• Luxury Sailing Cruise

If that all seems a bit too traditional, why not renew your vows with the Kuredu symbolic underwater wedding ceremony in full diving gear!

Hmm… Anything else catch your eye?

Even on All Inclusive you pay for your water. A 50% discount is offered to ease the pain and the surprise. Bear this in mind when calculating (if that’s what you do) drinking about 3 bottles a day at $4 each.

There is an internet café and you also have the facility to plug your laptop into the telephone line in your room.

Aqua Shoes could be good to have if you’re staying in a Beach Bungalow or an "O" Beach Villa. They’ll protect your feet from any stray bits of coral on the beach.

Kuredu Maldives Beach villas on the south side of the island are popular. For some visitors it may be because the seaplanes leave from the other side of the island where the Jacuzzi beach villas are. Although the first one can be out from 7am the seaplanes are by no means a constant distraction!
