Holiday Island Maldives
In Deep and In Depth
Holiday Island Maldives Facilities
The Main Restaurant serves all the guests on the island and can be busy at times. If you can, when you arrive, pop up to the restaurant and choose a table for the duration of your stay. Charley and I always go for a table on the outer edges of the restaurant, for ‘cooler’ seating and a better view!
The incongruously named coffee shop serves meals, drinks and also room service (24 hours). You can make reservations for any of Holiday island’s meal offers including their Barbeque and seafood evenings.
As well as a laid back vibe and comfy chairs the main bar comes alive in the evening with a live band, DJ and Maldivian cultural show.
The Beach bar is …. On the beach! Open until 6pm (and it closes over lunch) the bar is right by the watersports centre.
The watersports centre and dive centre are at opposite ends of the island. The water-sports area is situated on a wide beach that slopes sharply into the lagoon.
Holiday Island Maldives Activities
Holiday island is not alone in having a multitude of activities available for its guests. You can’t go wrong with….
Scuba diving, windsurfing, catamaran sailing, parasailing, canoeing, water skiing, wake boarding, jet skiing, banana boat riding, snorkeling, fishing, tennis, volleyball, badminton, billiards, table tennis, and a fully equipped gym.
The dive centre has its own jetty and boats that head out twice a day. The ever popular Safari trips run on most islands will take you out for sunset cruises, open water snorkelling and of course the finest diving on planet earth. Holiday island has a professionally run and PADI qualified diving school with courses offered for beginners and professionals alike.
Holiday Island Maldives Specialities
The diving is really the speciality of this island resort. Villa Diving Run the operation on Holiday island resort.
They run a PADI 5-Star Gold Palm center with excellent instructors. If you want you can take their dive instructors course and come back from holiday with a different job prospect if you want!
Hmm… Anything else catch your eye?
Remember, there isn’t a swimming pool on Holiday Island so it’s your opportunity to take a few snorkel lessons and even push the boat out (in more ways than one!) and do a beginners dive course!
In the evening there’s only the one main bar. Some nights there’s Kareoke and Disco so, if that’s not your thing you’ll need to slip away quietly and perhaps find a couple of chairs on the terrace set far enough out you can still have an intimate chat. Or wander the empty beach and listen to the waves…
The island management have this policy of all inclusive guests signing an ‘all inclusive agreement’ on arrival that basically limits what you can drink. It doesn’t really impact on the holiday you’ve booked and can really be considered just an administrative annoyance.
At your bungalow remember that you have a back door (where the shower area is) into your room so locking this is a reasonable safety measure. So speaks Phil from years of travelling the globe.
The lower numbered bungalows tend to be on the side of the island facing the ongoing development of Male airport. Whilst not a problem there can be some noise so the higher room numbers (over 140) tend to be further away and the noise less obtrusive.
Charley and I suggest giving the half-board offers a go if you’re not fussed about lunch.
